Sleek Darks palette, swatches and picture porn

I’m a total Sleek addict, I have 9 Sleek palettes and every time they bring out a new one, I just fall in love with it.
Especially the Limited Editions are great and they’re so inexpensive that I rarely can resist buying them. This time it was all mattes, and I do love me some matte eyeshadow. The Brights version didn’t really appeal to me, it didn’t contain any colour that I felt I didn’t already own. But the Darks version… Ooh la la!!!

So I bought Darks at Enchantra and because their shipment was a little late, they also included a Sleek lipproduct. I was working nightshifts so I didn’t have time to play around with this palette anyway, but I thought it was a nice gesture. I made pictures of the palette, made swatches and I described the eyeshadows one by one.

The Sleek palettes always have the same casing, sometimes it’s in a different colour but usually it’s nice and simple, a black plastic casing with the Sleek logo on it. This palette has a bit of a different logo on it than the other palettes and the pattern in the eyeshadows is different. The eyeshadows in Darks are pretty much flat and simple while the other pallettes have a… I can’t describe it in English. Let’s just say the other palettes always had a pattern in them and these don’t.😉

I always like the black casings Sleek palettes have. But I must say I also like the cardboard wrapping they come in. They would be more individually recognizable if they were all a little different. But it doesn’t bother me that they’re all the same on the outside because I always label them myself.

I always liked these see-through sheets that you can put on your palette to see what the eyeshadows are called. So simple but it makes describing them a whole lot easier. Kudos to Sleek for adding them to the palettes.

So, on to swatches. When I started swatching these eyeshadows I was surprised by their pigmentation, they’re really good, some are a bit chalky but nothing really bad. I had to work up the colour on some of the eyeshadows. I swatched them on a primer because I don’t see the use of swatching them on my bare skin, I never use eyeshadow without a primer so it wouldn’t give a good idea of the eyeshadows and how they’ll look if I swatched them without primer. At least that’s my opinion.🙂

Can you believe I swatched most of these eyeshadows with just 1 or 2 brushes of the applicator?

Left to right: Orbit, Ink, Highness

Orbit immediately stole my heart. Just this eyeshadow was worth buying this palette! It’s a gorgeous turquoise and the colour is pretty dark and very intense. This one applied like a dream, I only needed a few sweeps to get this colour payoff. I’m absolutely certain I’m going to use this colour a lot.

Ink was really good as well, the name is spot on and I only needed a few sweeps with my applicator to get this swatch. I think if you build this colour up its going to be very intense, great with a shimmery blue and some black! I personally don’t use a lot of blues but I’ll make sure not to pass this colour by.

Highness took me a little more effort to apply. It’s absolutely not a bad pigmentation but just a little less than the other ones. It’s the kind of pinkish purple that doesn’t instantly appeal to me. It’s probably a great transition colour if you’ve been working with dark or intense purple eyshadows.

From left to right: Noir, Dune, Pillow Talk

Noir is in almost every Sleek palette I own, so I have that one a LOT. And I’ve heard people complain that it’s in every palette but it’s such a great eyeshadow, I honestly don’t mind I own about 7 or 8 of them. I use it in so many looks I make, it’s great to create some depth in your looks and the colour is very, very pigmented so a little goes a long way.

Dune is a beautiful light sand colour that’s almost the same colour as my skin, just a tiny hint darker. It needed some building up to make it visible on the picture but I think this one would work great to blend out some colours in the crease. Other than that I personally don’t think I’ll use it a lot because it probably won’t show up on my eyelids.

Pillow Talk is a white eyeshadow. Not very special but great for highlighting. It’s a bit on the chalky side and I had to build it up to make it very visible on the picture but I don’t think you need to build it up in a look. You don’t want your highlighter to look really white in your looks because that usually looks a bit weird so this one is a good choice in the palette.

I thought I would like the first row most when I glanced at the palette the first time, but when I started swatching I really started to like the second row of eyeshadows too. Can you see why?

From left to right: Thunder, Maple, Flesh

Thunder YEAH finally a good matte grey eyeshadow!!!!!! I’ve been looking for an eyeshadow like this for soooo long. And I couldn’t believe it but I didn’t own any good matte grey ones! This colour needs a bit of building up but it’s very good none the less. I’m so happy with this one.😀

Maple is a gorgeous brick red colour, on the orange side of reds and very good in pigmentation. I’m going to have a lot of fun thinking of unlikely combinations with this eyeshadow. How about this one with a nice minty green? Yup. love it, love it, love it.

Flesh could have been skipped if it was up to me. Flesh is almost similar to Dune and just a hint darker and a little more eggyolk yellow. Not my kind of colour because it doesn’t show up on the skin good enough to work with in a look and it’s too dark for me to use as a “blending out” colour. I would have voted for another eyeshadow in the palette for this one.

From left to right: Paper Bag, Villan, Fern

Paper Bag makes this palette usable for a lot of people, This is a perfect crease colour if you want to make a pretty neutral look with some pop of colour on the moving eyelid. It’s a bit of a warm toned brown, which I actually like a lot. You can make a lot of warm earthy looks with this colour.

Villan is written wrong because the word is villain with an i and I checked if it meant anything else but google came up with nothing so I’m thinking it’s a typo. I just had to get that out of my system.🙂
Other than spelling it’s a fantastic colour, very warm shade of purple that doesn’t need a lot of building up to be very intense. This colour is amazing and I was shocked at how easy it applied. I’m very happy with this colour in the palette.

Fern is a great woody green that’s very intense and fresh at the same time. I absolutely love it but that’s also because I have a fetish for green eyeshadows and I don’t think I have anything like this in my collection. I can go on and on about this colour but just look at the swatch and I’m sure you know what I mean when I say I love it.

Do I need to tell you I’m absolutely in love with my latest addition to my Sleek collection?

I also got a Sleek lipstick and even though I’m not crazy about the colour, you simply do not look a gift horse in the mouth so I’m happy with it. Who knows what I’ll be able to use it for? It’s in the colour Café and I think it’s very suitable for ladies with darker skin. But it applies very smooth and doesn’t dry out my lips. This is the second Sleek lipstick I own and I like the quality of them.

lol, shall we say it’s not my colour? Honestly and I’m truly trying to be thankful, it reminds me of coprophagy. Google it if you want to know what that is.😉 But I’ll mix it with some of my other lipsticks and we’ll see what I come up with.

But this blogpost was about the palette and I can not emphasize this enough: it’s absolutely awesome and so worth your money. If you’re still in doubt about it, think about the very low price and the 12 awesome eyeshadows that you’ll get back for it. It’s a steal!!!

Have you bought this palette or are you going to buy it? With what colours would you like to see some looks? Challenge me for some unlikely colour combinations if you want to, I’m always in for that kind of fun. Please let me know in the comments!

  1. I want to buy this, I need to buy this, it shall be mine!!!

Do you mean the older palettes had a waffer pattern pressed into them?;)
And for a challenge… What about Maple, Villain and Fern?
And the lipstick is not your color, but maybe with a little purple mixed into the brown it could be better? I don’t know, I don’t do brown😄

    • A waffer pattern, thank you!! That’s exactly what I meant. I made a look today with the colours you gave me, and I used the lipstick with another colour, didn’t look too bad. It’ll be online in a few days because I’m very busy the next days but it’s coming😀

  2. I pre-ordered this palette at a Belgian webshop, can’t wait for it to arrive!

  3. This one is soooo on my wishlist, so hard not to scratch that Sleek-itch….

  4. haha, I just googled it, nasty. but the shadows are great!! I like Thunder and Highness.

  5. I guess i am the only girl in the world that just cant work with sleek. Or there is soemething wrong with my chaos palette… I just cant get the colours blended in.
I do dig this palette but will let it pass by! Cant wait to see a look you made with it!

  6. This may sound foolish, but I’d like to have this palette just to cherish it and occasionally make a tiny little swatch:)
